Mavis had a tragic end to her beautiful life on 3rd August 2026, twenty days before her twenty-first birthday. She was a member of an online forum where people in crisis are met with encouragement to die and with information on how to do it.
Her family has preserved what happened there, and is filing a lawsuit to ban the forum in India. Her posts from June and July 2026 are no longer publicly visible on the forum. Screenshots taken at the time record them — the thoughts she was having, the death she was planning, and the people around her trying to keep her safe. Others were posting the same things alongside her. Some of them are still there.
She was not the first to seek help on suicide on the site, but she should be the last. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please reach out. When we intervene at the right time, we may save a precious life.
What happened to Mavis there has been compiled into a report: her preserved posts, evidence that the forum is still in active use in India, the ways it is found and named on other platforms, and the research and regulatory findings above.
The report carries other people’s words, written at the worst moments of their lives, by people who are still alive and still in danger. The report is available on request to journalists, investigators, regulators, lawyers, clinicians and bereaved families. Write to Jigeesha, and say who you are and what you need it for.
I am Jigeesha, Mavis’s mom. Please feel free to reach out if you find yourself in similar circumstances as Mavis. I will openly share my learnings and the resources I found along the way. I hope it’s never too late to save a young life.
